My name is Audrey Chang, and I am a sophomore at Olathe North and enrolled in the Distinguished Scholars Program. I began studying music at age three on the piano, first with Mrs. Becci Martin, then Mrs. Susan Scheibler, and later with Mrs. Nancie Dalke. I had to leave piano because of studies last year, but Mrs. Dalke still accompanies me for contests. I grew interested in cello at age 9, and began my studies with Ms. Jean Dexter for six years, then with Mr. Larry Figg. I am currently studying with Mr. Mark Gibbs. I have been a member of Olathe Youth Symphony since 6th grade and am currently the principal cellist of the Symphony Orchestra. Last year, I attended the Heartland Music Camp at JCCC and it helped me grow immensely as a cello player. In February, I went to the KMEA Convention in Wichita and achieved 6th chair.
It is a great honor to play with the Olathe Community Orchestra. I thank everyone for their support and encouragement for helping me with this, but I would like to thank a few special people: my family for supporting my playing all these years, Ms. Dexter for helping me start off my cello, Mr. Figg for expanding my learning of the cello, Mr. Gibbs for helping me grow with the cello with his instruction and singing (yes, he does sing), and my Olathe Youth Symphony friends for being my Symphony Friends and playing great music with me.
