Briana Borth, 16, is an honor roll junior at Olathe North High School. She has studied violin for eleven years with Alice Joy Lewis, in Ottawa, Kansas, and for 6 months with Tiberius Klausner, former Concertmaster of the Kansas City Symphony. She has played with the Kansas City Youth Symphony for 8 years and was Concertmistress of the Philharmonic & Symphonette orchestras. She was the 1999 KCYS Philharmonic (West) Concerto Competition winner, and toured northern Italy with the Senior Symphony in the summer of 2000. She was the overall scholarship winner of the General Federation of Women's Clubs State Fine Arts Festival held in Salina, Kansas last month.
In addition to numerous solo, group recital and concert venues, Briana has performed with the Ottawa Suzuki Strings at the 1997 National Suzuki Convention in Chicago, Illinois. She attended the 8-week Interlochen Arts Camp last summer where she studied under Paul Sonner. In addition, she has had master classes with Roland Vamos (Oberlin Conservatory), Brian Lewis (concert violinist - New York, NY), and William Preucil (Concertmaster Cleveland Orchestra).
Briana is the daughter of Dianne Borth, who teaches vocal music at Gardner High School, and Jim Borth, an attorney. Her brother, Shane, and sister, Michaela, are both previous OCO concerto competition winners. Her younger sister, Jessica, is also a violinist, and is a member of the KCYS Philharmonic West orchestra.
