Lynn Alfers is in her 18th year as Organist and Handbell Coordinator at Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas. She has a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, where she studied with Kenneth D. LaRowe. She has since studied with Clark Kelly, University of Oklahoma, James Higdon, University of Kansas, John Ditto and John Obetz, both of the University of Missouri Kansas City. She previously has served churches in Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri; Orange, California; and Wichita Falls, Texas.
Lynn accompanies choirs and soloists at Grace Church and has been accompanist for many choral works, including, Messiah by Handel, Requiem by Fauré, Mass in G by Schubert, and Mass in b minor, by J.S. Bach. As Handbell Coordinator she directs the three adult handbell choirs, which serve on a monthly basis in services at Grace. She has performed for Bachathon, the annual festival of the music of J.S. Bach, sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Lynn is a member of the American Guild of Organists, which she serves as placement chair, and a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers.
