Paul Sutor, bassoonist, is a junior at the Barstow School. He is Principal Bassoonist with the Olathe Community Orchestra for the 2004-05 season. He has played bassoon in the Youth Symphony of Kansas City for six years. Paul recently was first chair bassoon in the 2004-05 Missouri All-State Orchestra.
In 2004, Paul won the Youth Symphony’s Philharmonic East concerto competition. He also earned first chair in the Kansas All-State Orchestra, and won first place in the Midwest Double Reed Society (MDRS) High School Competition. Paul was featured in the Wanhal Concerto for Two Bassoons and Orchestra at the Heartland Chamber Music Festival at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory in July 2004. In 2001, Paul was awarded the Phyllis Glass Bassoon Scholarship for the University of Kansas Midwestern Music Camp.
Paul is currently a student of Kimberly Krutz of Washburn University and the Kansas City Symphony. He has studied with Dr. Alan Hawkins, Jonathan Sherwin, Jodie Lin, Marita Abner, and Dr. Keith Sweger. Paul plans to pursue a career in bassoon performance.
