Yen-Ping Chen, 17, was born June 14, 1990 in Taipei, Taiwan. He is a senior at Olathe Northwest High School, and is involved in Orchestra, and some small ensemble groups. He has been selected for Northeast District Honor Orchestra for the last three years, from 2006 to 2008 and has made State Honor Orchestra each year. He is the son of Hua-Hsiu and Nan-Yao Chen. Yen-Ping started studying music and piano at the age of four and started playing the violin at the age of five. He studied piano with Shi-Yi Huang and violin with Zhi-Yuan Ying and Zhao-Quan Chen in Taiwan. He moved to the United States in September, 2004. During his years attending high school, he was mentored by Joel Martin, director of the Olathe Northwest High School orchestra. He began taking private lesson with Lisa Jackson in March, 2007. He will attend the University of Kansas next fall and major in Music Performance. He has been awarded a Music Scholarship to K.U.
